Our mission is to build a positive image of homosexual, bisexual and transgender people by creating a climate of social acceptance. Our Association was established in 1997. We are a national organization by law, but most of our activities are based locally around the Warsaw area. Our members are mostly volunteers and professionals who spend their time working on our projects. Our statutory aims are: - building a positive identity among homosexual, bisexuals and transgender people.
- promoting social tolerance for LGBTQ people.
- combating HIV/AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
- fighting discrimination, especially with regards to sexual orientation.
Professionalism is a very important issue for us. We have already implemented the Volunteer's Ethical Code and became members of the Polish Help-lines Association (PTPT), Federation of Social Service Organizations Mazowia and International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA-Europe). We are also associated with the National Federation of Non-governmental Originations. We have also signed and implemented the Non-governmental Chart of Rules of Service. We are already implementing several programmes: u Information and Support Centre: the scheme aimed to provide information and support to homosexual people and their relatives. The centre runs a helpline for lesbians, gays and their relatives. We also provide support groups which help participants accept themselves or their relative’s sexuality. We accommodate groups for: gays, lesbians, parents and their LGBTQ relatives and a new group for transsexual people); Our legal, medical and psychological counselling specialists hold bimonthly sessions; a library with a reading room provides LGBTQ-related literature. 2,174 people used the centre in 2007. u Monitoring media activity in relation to discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and information on anti-discriminatory laws: Our association conducts a regular survey among homosexuals with regard to discrimination on the grounds of their sexual orientation. The data gathered is published as the “Report on Discrimination and Intolerance on the grounds of Sexual Orientation” As part of the program, the organisation monitors the press and the Internet for discrimination of lesbians and gays in the media, in the public sphere, discriminatory remarks made by politicians and church representatives. Volunteers associated with Lambda provide information with regard to anti-discriminatory laws in Poland and the European Union to all interested, and in the pre-referendum period, organised seminars on the observance of gay and lesbian rights in the European Union. u Anti-discrimination and human rights awareness events: “Zywa Bibilioteka” (Living Library), Global Village, workshops and trainings on discrimination issues for local NGOs, teachers public authorities and social workers. We’ve actively engaged in Council of Europe “All Different – All Equal” human rights campaign. u An HIV/AIDS prevention programme "Safer Relationships". As part of the programme, the organisation initiated harm-reduction programmes preventing damage done by prostitution and high-risk sexual behaviour. The volunteers of the project reach out to high-risk communities, providing them with information, condoms, lubricants and printed information materials. Medical advise and counselling made it possible to give access to medical therapy for those in need, to work in the meeting place of the target group and to organise safer-sex workshops for men who are likely to engage in high-risk sexual behaviour. u Programme for the development of organisations already existing in Poland . This programme includes organising of workshops preparing future leaders of organisations and informal groups working with LGBT issues. During the training sessions participants gain knowledge and competence necessary for their work. If you wish to help us – donate! Every little helps!
